The Motorcycle Safety Institute of South Africa (MSI) has, for over two decades, dedicated itself to improving motorcycle safety, rider education, risk management, and public awareness nationwide. Our mission has always been, and remains, the preservation of life on two wheels through rider education, research, and advocacy rooted in integrity and respect.
It is therefore with great disappointment that we note the recent articles published by MyBroadband (Myles Illidge) and TopAuto (Staff Writer/Coward), which, by distorting our input, deliberately sensationalise the issue of delivery rider behaviour and single out specific service providers for public ridicule. This approach lacks integrity and undermines the collaborative progress being made between industry stakeholders, rider groups, and training institutions such as MSI.
We recognise that challenges exist within the delivery sector, but progress is achieved through constructive engagement and education, not through maliciousness or click-driven narratives. It is counterproductive and damaging when media platforms prioritise engagement metrics over balanced reporting, particularly on matters of human safety and efforts for change.
MSI and its Members will no longer engage with MyBroadband or any media outlet that disregards the principles of integrity, fair representation, and relationship-building for the sake of social impact. Our commitment is, and always will be, to the riders, companies or organisations, and communities that work tirelessly toward safer roads and responsible riding.
We urge the public and media alike to focus on collaboration, accountability, and continued education, not exploitation, in addressing the real issues affecting motorcycle safety in South Africa.
Be part of the Solution, not the Problem!
