MSI Collaboration Guidelines

MSI Collaboration Guidelines

The Motorcycle Safety Institute of South Africa (MSI) exists for one reason: to change the way riders think, so they change the way they ride.

Any collaboration, campaign, or event conducted in association with MSI must actively support this purpose. These guidelines set clear expectations, protect MSI’s integrity, and ensure that every partnership delivers real value to motorcycle safety and awareness.

MSI does not support self‑serving initiatives disguised as safety campaigns. If a collaboration primarily promotes a person, brand, product, or commercial agenda without a measurable safety impact, it will not be approved.

Core Principles (Non‑Negotiable)

All collaborations must align with the following principles:

  1. Life Over Likes
Rider safety, risk awareness, and behavioural change come before publicity, reach, or brand exposure.
  2. Education Over Entertainment
Campaigns must educate, inform, or positively influence rider behaviour. Awareness without action is not enough.
  3. Credibility & Integrity
Messaging must be fact‑based, responsible, and aligned with recognised motorcycle safety best practices.
  4. Rider‑Centric Focus
The rider’s well-being, skills, mindset, and long‑term safety must remain the central theme at all times.
  5. No Conflicting Interests
MSI will not associate with initiatives that encourage reckless riding, unsafe behaviour, speed glorification, or non‑compliance with road laws.

What MSI will Support

MSI may collaborate on initiatives that:

  • Promote protective riding gear, training, risk awareness, and responsible riding culture
  • Encourage skills development, mindset change, and informed decision‑making
  • Support community education, rider workshops, talks, or demonstrations
  • Are aligned with road safety, compliance, and rider responsibility
  • Have a clear safety outcome, not just marketing exposure

What MSI will Not Support

MSI will not participate in or endorse:

  • Brand‑first or influencer‑first campaigns using safety as a secondary excuse
  • Product launches or promotions without clear safety relevance
  • Events encouraging speeding, stunts, racing behaviour, or unsafe riding
  • Campaigns that misrepresent MSI’s role, expertise, or endorsement
  • Initiatives that dilute MSI’s message or compromise its credibility

Collaboration Structure & Expectations

Roles & Representation

  • MSI retains full authority over safety messaging, educational content, and rider guidance
  • MSI branding, logos, and name may only be used with written approval
  • MSI participation does not imply endorsement of products, services, or companies unless explicitly agreed

Content & Messaging

  • All safety‑related content must be reviewed and approved by MSI
  • MSI may request changes or withdraw if messaging shifts away from safety objectives

Commercial & Financial Transparency

  • Any commercial intent must be clearly disclosed upfront
  • MSI is a non‑profit‑driven safety organisation; collaborations must reflect this reality
  • Financial arrangements (if any) must support MSI’s safety mission and sustainability

Evaluation Criteria

Each proposal is assessed on:

  • Alignment with MSI’s mission and values
  • Measurable rider safety impact
  • Quality and credibility of messaging
  • Long‑term benefit versus short‑term exposure
  • Reputational risk to MSI

Approval is not guaranteed. MSI reserves the right to decline any proposal without obligation to justify the decision.
